Casting Times

From the swiftest reaction to the longest ritual, the tempo of magic.

Action

Most spells require a single action to cast. You use your action on your turn to cast the spell — you can still move and take a bonus action.

Bonus Action

A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action.

Reaction

Some spells can be cast as reactions. These spells take a fraction of a second and are cast in response to some event, such as an attack or a falling object.

1 Minute

Casting this spell takes 1 minute (10 rounds of combat). You must concentrate on the spell for its entire casting time, or the spell fails.

10 Minutes

Casting this spell takes 10 minutes. You must concentrate on the spell for its entire casting time. This is typically used outside of combat.

1 Hour

Casting this spell takes 1 hour. These are powerful rituals or complex enchantments that require extended focus and preparation.

8 Hours

Casting this spell takes 8 hours. These are among the most powerful and complex spells, often involving elaborate rituals.

24 Hours

Casting this spell takes a full day. These are the most elaborate magical workings, involving sustained focus over an entire day.
